Mississippi River and Quarantine Research

The Mississippi River is the largest river in the US. It has been a vital point of entry for all forms of trades and goods with its ability to reach across the country. It aslo became a point of entry for potential infectious diseases. I the late 1800's disease was ramped. without our current luxury of vaccinations for just about everything, the people in that time just had to prevent any contact with it to insure safety. The Mississippi River played a huge role in keeping disease from entering the US. There was a series of check points and docking stations set up to inspect incoming vessels for any signs of sickness. If any was detected the vessel and the people were then sent to a Quarantine station. The passengers were held until they showed no more signs of sickness and the vessel and all its belongings went through a thorough disinfecting process.

Port Eads was an inspection station and if any sickness was detected the vessel would then be sent to the Lazaretto to be treated. This was an infectious disease station some distance from the main path. Once there were no more signs of sickness the passengers would then reboard the ship and it would proceed to the Quarantine Station where the vessel would undergo a thorough disinfection process. Once cleared it could continue on its journey up the river. Rigolets was another point of enrty for vessels traveling the Mississippi Sound and Lake Borgne into Lake Pontchartrain. There was also a Quarantine Station located in Morgan city Inspecting vessels approaching from the west bank.

Micro Aggregation Drawings

For the top two Rhino drawings I had decided to look back at a diagram that mapped my daily function throughout one day and use that as a curve. I then shuffled the grid using that as a curve attractor. I used Mean and List in an effort to stick with the ideas of my Operative Words, Transform/Move. I then used the same curve along with a "drawing" depicting the movement through the spaces in my midterm project to panel the grid. Sticking with the idea of my Operative Words, I took those same two drawings and "blended" them together to transform them into a new form.

System Investigation

I am looking into using a form of solar harvesting to power my unit. I am also considering using Reverse Osmosis to produce clean water taken directly from an adjacent water source to provide for drinking and utility water supply for my unit.

New Form

When considering the complete symmetry existing in my former design i decided to reanalyze the reason for the separation of space in the unit. I realized the spaces to be one of relaxation and one of activity. I decided to transition from a linear or rectangular space where the eye and body can rest to one of circularity and movement.

Updates

After investigating the site and the conditions of the size needed for a unit to accommodate that site I am deciding to go rethink the use and mobility of the space I am creating. I am going back to a earlier precedent that I believe will really work in this type of environment and try to merge all the ideas in my head right now.....heres a pic of that precedent. With this idea I can use the walls to create and rethink the needed space for our daily activities.
